Begin by opening the battery compartment cover on the back of the clock and place 1 new AA alkaline (not included) into the compartment as indicated by polarity (+, -). CAUTION: Be sure to insert the battery in the correct position (+, -) when the battery is changed. the clock will be in set up mode for the Atomic reception. Atomic Signal Reception IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: the clock will not operate or set for the first four minutes after inserting the battery. During this time the clock will be searching for the Time Signal from Fort Collins, Colorado and the setting functions will not operate. This is normal and not a defect in your clock. While the clock is searching for the Atomic Signal the WAVE button can be pressed to stop the search for the time signal. If you are in a location where it is difficult to receive the signal, the clock can be set manually and then it will automatically update to the correct Atomic time when it receives the signal. Normally, signal reception is best at night. If the signal is not received in the first four minutes, it is recommended you set the time manually and wait for the clock to catch the signal at night. Once the time is set (either automatically or manually), the clock will seek out the radio signal daily to keep its accuracy. PLEASE NOTE: Scrolling tower means the clock is searching. Solid tower means the clock did not catch the signal. Solid tower with WAVE OK means your clock has caught the signal in the last 24 hrs. Daylight Saving Time If you live in an area that does observe DST, place the DST switch into the ON position. The Letters DST will appear on the display next to the Atomic Signal ICON confirming you are in the Daylight Saving Time mode. The clock will now adjust automatically each spring and fall to correct for the 1-hour time change. If you live in an area that DOES NOT observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), slide the DST switch on the back of the clock to the OFF position to deactivate the DST function.
